Laser Dentistry

Why would I want to have laser therapy?
Often times people with periodontal disease are recommended to have their gums cut back, lowered to a lower level and then put back. This procedure often solves the problem. But many patients prefer laser surgery for it is a method that has very little discomfort and costs much less. We find that laser surgery is often times an excellent alternative for patients.

How does a dental laser work?
A dental laser emits concentrated energy in the form of a light beam. This beam vaporizes matter. The beam is so narrow that each pulse of light can vaporize only a specific number of cell layers. This means the dentist can focus the laser to a specific area that has diseased tissue and not do harm to other areas. This helps to make the treatment painless, and make the area less sensitive afterwards. This is very helpful, when we are treating a patient with gum disease. We can frequently eradicate the bacteria that is causing the problem and the resultant healing is often very amazing.
